What are the most important risk factors for relapse in individuals with first episode psychosis?

Patients with first episode psychosis, even when initially treated, are at high risk for relapse. As many as 4/5 of patients treated for first episode psychosis relapse within 5 years. The most common cause of relapse is medication non-adherence. Those who stop medications have a five times greater risk of relapse as those who continue the treatments.
