We’ve all experienced stress and frustration. Some people can remain grounded and manage their feelings in healthy ways, while others may have difficulty managing them. These feelings can manifest in a number of ways: frustration, agitation, or acts of aggression. As professionals, our ability to support these individuals is highly determined by our insight and emotional maturity. Remaining calm, understand the person’s concern, and empathizing with their feelings will help us mitigate risk of harm and create an opportunity for learning. This video highlights important de-escalation principles and strategies that will guide you while rendering therapeutic intervention to persons experiencing emotional dysregulation.
