This webinar discusses current and evolving issues surrounding the ethics, regulatory, and legal standards for using digital technologies like smartphone apps for care in serious mental illnesses. Although the technology of smartphone apps and sensors continues to change, there are core principles around safety and privacy that are important to recognize and rely on in making informed decisions around technology use in care.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • List at least three privacy risks around using apps for serious mental illness
  • Appraise three methods to mitigate privacy risks around apps for serious mental illness
  • Explain the benefits as well as concerns related to current U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s efforts to regulate the digital health space and what impact that has on use of apps for serious mental illnesses
