What resources are available to raise awareness of individuals, caregivers and the community about the dangers of smoking and mental illness?

There are a variety of initiatives that have been launched in recent years to focus attention on the disproportionate rates of tobacco use among people with mental illness. One of the leaders in this movement is the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center housed at the University of California at San Francisco. They offer education webinars and multiple resources that can be used by healthcare organizations, academic institutions or individuals.

An excellent example of a comprehensive, state specific resource guide is Kansas Tobacco Guidelines for Behavioral Health Care: An Implementation Toolkit. It includes information on assessment, treatment options, wellness and recovery.
