Collaborative care is the term used to describe a treatment system than can treat both medical problems and mental health conditions at the same time and place. The core principles of Collaborative Care suggests that it makes sense to maximize workflow at a primary care clinic to include the treatment of substance use disorders and mental health problems. However, there are also challenges inherent in this model that need to be addressed for this expansion in scope to occur.
