What is the standard of care for treating pregnant and parenting women with opioid use disorder and their infants?

Opioid use disorder (OUD) impacts millions of Americans including those with serious mental illnesses (SMI). Selecting the best management for pregnant women who have OUD and concurrent depression and/or other mental health conditions is a complex decision. This clinical guidance document from SAMHSA and the Department of Health and Human Services offers clinicians an easy to access set of recommendations presented in an engaging to read manner, augmented with many fact sheets offering clinical guidance. While the focus of the document is not SMI – the recommendations it offers will likely be useful for any patient you see.
