Should varenicline and nicotine replacement therapy be used together for treatment of nicotine dependence in patients with serious mental illness?

The evidence for the benefits of adding nicotine replacement to varenicline is still limited and conflicting. Furthermore, using the two together may also increase nausea and other side effects. Therefore use of the two therapies together is currently not recommended.
