Medical Directors’ Recommendations on Trauma-informed Care for Persons with Serious Mental Illness

The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) Medical Director Council has made seven recommendations for trauma-informed interventions for people with serious mental iIllness (SMI). The council’s recommendations are motivated by the Interdepartmental Serious Mental Illness Coordinating Committee (ISMICC) vision to make trauma-informed, whole-person health care the expectation in all systems of care for people with SMI.
