Do peer support specialists encourage the people they serve in taking medications?

Peer support specialists can play a very important and productive role in activating self-management in the people they support. While peer support specialists do not make any judgments about whether individuals should take psychiatric medications or about which medications they should take, they can be very helpful in providing assistance for people to learn how to work as active partners with their providers, and methods for becoming well-informed about the possible benefits and side effects of medications.
